Katarina Wit started skating when she was five years old. Her success allowed her to show her skill and was accepted into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school for gifted kids. This was where she met her coach Jutta Muller. Witt had her first breakthrough year in 1982, when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since that time the elegance and grace of her skating captured the eye of all. She began to dominate this particular sport. Olympic victory At the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the ladies' bronze medal in figure skating following an extremely close contest. Her victory four years ago was even closer. She actually lost the free-skating competition, but was awarded the gold medal based upon her results in the mandatory figures as well as the short program. Witt was the first woman since Sonja Haenie to be the winner of a second time in figure skating. Hall of Fame Witt had amazing success as a performer, however she returned to her sports to participate in her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Although she didn't get a single medal she enchanted fans despite her seventh place finish. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
